Born crying at 31 weeks, Elsie was arrived after a reasonable 3 1/2 hour labour.
Her mother, Hannah, had her waters break days beforehand, and spent that time waiting in hospital for her arrival.
What made this little girls birth so anticipated, was her Sister’s premature birth around a year prior. Evie, was born at 25 weeks as a sleeping angel. At 1lb 8oz, her tiny body arrived earthside due to an infection of the womb called Chorioamnionitis.
Chorioamnionitis is a condition that can affect pregnant women. In this condition, bacteria infects the the membranes that surround the fetus and the amniotic fluid. This can lead to infections in both the mother and fetus. In most cases, this may mean the fetus has to be delivered as soon as possible.
Their brother, Harrison also had a similar event to cause his premature birth at 33 weeks.
Elsie is a rainbow baby, and we planned her session to represent this.
What is a rainbow baby you might ask?
A rainbow baby is a baby born shortly after the loss of a previous baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth, or death in infancy. This term is given to these special rainbow babies because a rainbow typically follows a storm, giving us hope of what’s to come.
I wanted to incorporate something special to signify baby Evie, to remind Hannah that her loss is not forgotten and never will be. No one should ever have to suffer the devastating loss of a child, and I can’t imagine the heartache those that do must go through.
The rainbow heart that appears in some of her photos are to represent little Evie and the journey that lead to Elsie.
Hannah was truly spoilt with make up and hairstyling on the day, which were a surprise to her.
Thank you so much Amy from Amy at Sweet Mae Hair Design and Penni from Miss Pamperpuss Make up and Beauty you both made Hannah feel very special and totally gorgeous!!
Elise was 8 weeks old for her session and travelled especially from Kerang just to see me. She was the size of an average 7lb newborn at this age, and normally my newborns are generally 1-2 weeks old. In Elsie’s circumstance, it was far safer to wait for her to arrive home from hospital.
Her oldest sister Millie came along and was a fabulous assistant, she even was lucky enough to have her hair and make up done as well. Millie you can come and model anytime for me with your stunning hair!
What was so amazing about scheduling in this session, was that last year we did some family photos after the loss of Evie. I incorporated a rainbow into one of these images, and little did we know that Elsie would be on her journey not long after. Millie was the only sibling that was able to come along for Elie’s newborn session due to travel, but we are hoping to include everyone in our next session. This may mean a road trip to Kerang!
